NIKOLAI AARRE
Battersea desk, 2025
This desk was commissioned for a very narrow space. Drawing inspiration from various design traditions, it looks radically different depending on the angle you look at it from. The side is slimly triangular recalling Chinese furniture. From the front the line-thin middle part stands out. Upside down it shifts into sculpture, resembling a well-known London power station.
Made of solid cherry wood, the only end grains visible are on the ‘ears’ of the sides. The rest of the wood is cut in complicated angles, highlighting the desk’s shifting forms.
